This machine exemplifies writing as a state of rapture.
Once you learn to type, it just flows. And out of this fast flow, there is often space for inspiration to flood in. Call it divine, or the muse, or what you will.
A writing machine can be a gateway for this process.
I feel a special warm place for these, because my first typewriter was a Smith Corona Silent, a lot like this. I find very little discerneable difference between the 'Sterling' and the 'Silent', other than more insulation, which has mostly rotted away by now.
